Your Guide To Preserved Flowers In 2021

It’s always a joy to receive a gift, especially when it’s a bouquet of flowers. But, wouldn’t it be better if there are ways that you can help bundle of beautiful flowers last as long as possible? Well, we’re here to let you in on a little secret: you can!

Whether it’s preserved flowers, or simply extending the life of your bouquet, there are various methods to go about it.

First, let’s teach you how to keep cut flowers fresh for an extended period of time:

Cutting The Stems

Once you receive a gorgeous bloom box, one of the best ways to extend the life of the bouquet is to cut the stems. Using garden shears is the most effective way to cut the stems, but you can use any type of scissors you have lying around.

Repeat this process every few days, and your flowers will remain beautiful and vibrant for a little while longer.

Keep An Eye On The Leaves

One of the reasons why flowers wither quickly is due to the amount of bacteria that inhabit leaves. This speeds up the withering process, which can be averted if you pluck out the dried leaves before they fall. So, if you notice dried up leaves or petals, make it a habit to remove them to keep your flowers thriving.

Avoid Heat

Flowers may love to soak in the sun’s rays, but too much heat can actually be harmful to them. Contrary to common belief, flowers actually last longer in cooler areas of your home. So be sure not to place them in areas that may get a tad too hot – the kitchen, for example.

Simply Blooms Flower Box

Unfortunately, your flowers can only last for so long. But, if you want to cherish the memories, here are some quick tips on how to make preserved fresh flowers:

Pressing

Pressed flowers: the name says it all. This method will help maintain your flowers’ vibrant colours and texture. You’ll need one thing though – something heavy (preferably a phonebook).

Push down with all your might, and voilà! You’ll have a set of preserved flowers that you can paste in your family photo album, or even frame up for display.

Air Dry

This method may require some patience, but it’s an effective way to retain your flowers’ colours and fragrance. To get started, you’ll have to pluck the leaves and tie the flowers into bundles. Then hang them upside down in a ventilated room to speed up the drying process.

Microwave

This may be an unorthodox and lengthy method, but a microwave can be an effective way when you’re drying flowers. First, get ready a microwave-friendly container and cover the bottom of it with silica gel, a moisture absorbent.

Then, place your blooms and add a little more silica gel on top. Place the container in the microwave for 2-5 minutes, but take note that heat resistance differs from flower to flower. After you’re done, brush the gel off, and you’ll have a fine set of dried and preserved flowers, ready to be framed!
