It’s a week to celebrate women!
Every year, we celebrate International Women’s Day, an annual celebration of women’s achievements and contributions to society. It’s celebrated on March 8th, and serves as a reminder and a platform to raise awareness about gender inequality, female empowerment and more.
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Embrace Equity’. It serves to reflect the need to address persistent gender inequalities in fields such as work, education and even politics. It’s a call to action for more individuals and organizations to work towards achieving gender parity, and creating a more progressive, inclusive society.
The History of International Women’s Day
The roots of International Women’s Day dates back to the early 1900s. Women across the world began advocating for their rights to vote, work, and receive education. Eventually, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911. Since then, it has evolved into a global movement that recognizes and celebrates the achievements of women, while also highlighting the ongoing struggle for gender equality.
Women held little rights when it came to the things that men were heavily involved in back in the day. Even until today, some women in certain countries are still struggling for their rights. International Women’s day serves as a reminder for these women to never give up the fight. It also reminds other women around the world to keep raising awareness for them.
